As we age, the skin can become dull, dehydrated and start to show lines and wrinkles. Sun damage can produce hyperpigmentation and sun spots, which can make the skin tone look uneven. To restore that youthful glow without invasive surgery, there is a revolutionary treatment which is becoming hugely popular amongst those in the know. It’s called Dermaplaning and is available here at Dentelle Aesthetic Skin Solutions in Solihull, Birmingham.
Dermaplaning uses a surgical 10-gauge blade to literally scrape away dead skin cells, dirt and pigmentation caused by sun-damage. It helps to diminish fine lines and wrinkles, and the appearance of dull, dehydrated and ageing skin, as well as removing fine, vellus hair (peach fuzz) which can cause make up application to look uneven.
During the treatment, the skin is held taught and the scalpel is held at a 45-degree angle whilst your practitioner ‘shaves’ away 2 to 3 weeks’ worth of dead skin cells, fake tan and debris, to reveal smoother, clearer and ‘glassy’ looking skin.
Am I suitable for dermaplaning?
As dermaplaning does not use injectables or harsh chemicals, most people are suitable for the treatment.
Will I see results straight away?
You will see the benefits of dermaplaning after just one session, as weeks of dead skin will be removed in this treatment. However, it is recommended to have this treatment once every 4 weeks for optimum and lasting results. It’s worth considering that after a dermaplaning treatment, the skin may feel more sensitive and be slightly dry or flaky for a few days. Using a good quality SPF sunscreen as well as hydrating serums will protect and nourish your skin.
Will Dermaplaning make the hair on my face grow back thicker?
Vellus hair does not have a root and is therefore unlike normal hair on the body or the head. The blade used in dermaplaning is extremely sharp and cuts the hair cleanly, unlike a razor you’d use to shave your legs, which cuts it in a very blunt way. In dermaplaning the vellus hair will grow back in the same thickness and very fine texture. It may feel slightly different to the touch as it grows, as it has been cut at an angle but you won’t need to worry, this will subside quickly and the hair will be just as before when it grows back.
How long do the results last?
Results last between 4 and 6 weeks but regular treatments will encourage the skin to produce more collagen and elastin as well as regulate cell turnover. It can also help to balance oil production for clearer skin.
